DSRC / WLAN Standards Development.
DSRC stands for Dedicated Short Range Communication, which is the next generation environment for telematics and automotive wireless connectivity. “Short range” covers distances between the vehicle and the infrastructure that ranges from a few meters to 300m or more. Applications include a host of safety and commercial uses, including toll collection, commercial vehicle management, and infotainment and collision avoidance.

Over the last 6 years, TechnoCom has been a pioneer in the standardization of DSRC, which uses 802.11p (an adaptation of 802.11a) at the physical layer and offers data rates from 3 to 54 Mbps. TechnoCom is currently leading the development of DSRC’s networking and management protocols through the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) under the sponsorship of a well-funded industry consortium and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). TechnoCom is also supporting the standardization of secure, anonymous communications for the DSRC user.

Systems Design and Prototyping Services.
TechnoCom has been retained by industry leaders to assist in the development of prototype devices and systems for on-board and road-side units, as well as VII networks. These systems will operate over a wide range of frequencies, including the DSRC band at 5.9 GHz, the U-NII 5.x GHz bands, the public safety band at 4.9 GHz and the ISM band at 2.4 GHz. TechnoCom’s existing LMU and the VeoLocation platforms may be used to augment WiFi and DSRC development efforts, and together these systems can be used for a wide range of applications from initial network performance testing and analysis, to production applications and systems.

System Analysis and Integration Services.
TechnoCom possess a depth and breadth of wireless system engineering expertise that complements its location expertise. TechnoCom’s engineers have performed several customer projects encompassing network architecture definition, requirements flow-down, specification creation, positioning algorithm development, traffic and communication link simulations (using OPNET and NS2), protocol design, interference analysis and mitigation strategies, as well as RF design and network planning using LocatePredict and other RF tools.
